Cats Protection, Preston Branch - SPONSOR CATS
We occasionally have cats in care that are unlikely ever
to be re-homed, either due to illness, disability or
age. We run a sponsorship scheme for these cats, which
is co-ordinated by our Cat Welfare
Officer. Wherever we can, we find a home for the
cats that come into our care, and we try to keep the
number of sponsor cats as low as possible, particularly
since most of the fosterers who are willing to take
on the special problems of a sponsor cat tend to have
one or more 'difficult' cats of their own. Still, now
and again we take in a cat that has more problems than
most, and if a home is not found, we eventually seem
to find a special volunteer to take the cat into their
home. The Branch pays for food, litter, and veterinary
bills.
The presence of a
cat on the sponsorship list does not mean that we won't
rehome it if the right owner comes along. One of our
long term sponsor cats, Prancer, an epileptic boy, was
rehomed to a wonderful lady who already had an epileptic
cat and was willing to apply her expertise to Prancer.
She has succeeded in slowly weaning him off his medicine,
and he is now a very happy and much loved pet.
We also have a pen sponsorship scheme, where sponsors
promise a certain sum per month or per year towards
the care of cats in a specific pen. Sponsors get news
of the cats that have been in the pen. For a more substantial
donation, a pen can be named in memory or in honour
of a person or a cat. Contact the Cat
Welfare Officer for more details.
Here is the list of cats available for sponsorship.
Tilly is a tortoiseshell, she has a long term
health problem and is on a special diet. Nobody seemed
willing to give her a home, so she is on our sponsorship
list now, and has moved into her fosterer's home. She
is a very strong minded little cat, and has made herself
very much at home. Her medical bills and food bills
are quite high, and we would be glad of the sponsorship.
Sophie
It is with sadness that we bring you the news that Sophie, a long term sponsor cat, was put to sleep last month. She was about sixteen years old, and had become very ill. She will be greatly missed.
We have a pen sponsorship scheme to help cover the
costs of caring for other cats. For more details, please
contact the Cat Welfare Officer.
